Ecclesiastes 3

When the time came...

Prior to the president's directive to lockdown parts of the country to minimise the spread of the corona virus, William with the rest of the Spektra's management team, had planned to close down the office for 2 weeks.

Spektra, closed for 2 weeks and it was not Christmas!!! woooow the time indeed came.

Honestly my mind during the lockdown period was not on the pandemic but rather spending some quality time with my chipmunks. I believe most working moms had the same thoughts when their offices closed down during the lockdown period. The way I yearned to spend an afternoon with my kids without thinking about reports and all the disappointment that comes from working with artisans.

I always got jealous when teachers, my aunt and cousin tell me the first things my kids did. I always wished I was around them when they did their firsts. As a working mom, I missed a lot of my kids firsts. I remember I was at work when my cousin called to tell me my second born, Kobina, had stood up on his own. Kwesi, my first born said "I am fine" in my absence. When I returned home from work that day I did all I could to make him repeat the words but to no avail. It took over 2 weeks to hear him say those 3 words.

Being at home with the kids was fun, but honestly tiring when I had back to back virtual meetings. In fact before the pandemic I never thought I could stay home on a working day without being sick.

When the time came for me to be at home with my kids during the lockdown was very interesting and eye opening. I got to attend to my kids needs personally, tried to make sense of their tantrums but to avail mostly, helped them with their virtual classes, instilled some personal values and discipline in them and above all did a lot of pillow fights with them. It was during this period I got to know Kwesi could draw a "Dolphin".

As Solomon mentioned, there is time for everything and indeed the lockdown period in 2020 was one of the best times in my life as I got to be with my kids for 3 weeks without permission or apologies. And yeah.... I got my full salary.

Next time there is a lockdown try to make good use of it by doing what you have been yearning to do.

  2. Interesting read. Spending time with our loved ones has been one of the blessings of this period.
